Biodiversity

Biodiversity is important in ecosystems because it prevents extinction of species, allows organisms to adapt to changes in the environment and provides a wide range of materials and foods for survival.

Recent Projects

Deer Management is necessary in order to increase biodiversity in those areas where the deer population is beyond the ecological carrying capacity. It also reduces damage to landscaping and reduces damage and injury due to traffic accidents involving deer.

Biodiversity Demonstration Garden. Merrimack Farm WMA has a wildlife demonstration garden which is always full of life. This summer the flowers and scrubs were particularly great this season. Aerial footage give a new perspective to the garden.

The Family at Box 12. The bluebird boxes installed and maintained by the Prince William Conservation Alliance and many other organizations and individuals have helped restore the Eastern Bluebird population to healthy levels.
